The impact of working from home during COVID-19



Introduction

As a result both employers and employees had to move for new work arrangements within a short time. Consequently WFH has turned into a policy need for most organizations. Home working has given a few employers the adaptability they need to proceed with their business tasks while focusing on staff as well as the customer health.






Advantages of employees working from home

Using home as a working space for at least few days per week has given many benefits for employees as well as employers. Home working empowers flexibility in working arrangements. With employees no longer attached to an office, they might be better positioned and more ready to work adaptable hours; prior or later in the day or even at end of the week. Home working can assists the employees to meet child or adult care needs, which empower them to accommodate their work around their own life. Being permitted to telecommute, staff will also feel expanded level of trust from their employer, which can contribute significant loyalty. Though the working relationships are not firmly checked, telecommuting staff will feel more trusted by their employers. More joyful home working schedules could motivate the employees to give their best.

Disadvantages of employees working from home

Due to the outbreak of corona virus, many employees had to adjust to WFH for the first time without any preparation and some may feel excited about working alone. “Spending long hours and collaborating with only a computer screen and no face-to-face interaction and communication with remote team members can be challenging” (Ikram, 2021). Though the different types of platforms like Skype, Meet, Teams, Zoom, etc. can be used to connect with video conferencing, it probably won't be just about as proficient as sitting together and concentrate on work adequately. The job expects employees to keep self-assessment on their work. Self-guideline is a difficult situation, and they may have longer breaks and less work time. Arranging a workspace with a quality computer with other equipment with high speed internet connection can be expensive. Employees need to concentration while working, to deliver anticipated outcomes. It ends up being profoundly hard to stay away from interruptions of family needing consideration. Also some might neglect to balance the work-life and home-life together; resulting added pressure.

Conclusion

“A recent study done by social media scheduling platform Buffer an amazing 99% of respondents said they were satisfied with their current remote work situation and would like to continue working remotely (at least in part) for the remainder of their careers” (Chapman, 2021). Some of the employees are happy with their present remote work and willing to work from distance to a limited extent for the rest of their carrier.

    Employers might face different challenges managing employees while they are working from home. For example, they might have concerns around performance if they cannot see the employee working in person.
    Employers might monitor employees' activities at work in various ways, but it's also important to trust employees to do their job.what do you think?

Because of Pandemic situation Most of the company started stay home and work its really good to practice life balancing while working in home and learn more from internet but what I feel still we cannot do it successful in Sri Lanka ,because we have many technical issue to connect to internet and the cost and limitation ,

This concept of "Work from home" has favourably effect the service provided organizations but adversely to industrial organizations.   11. Remote working kind of mind-blowing work concept to majority of work force. It is having immense of advantages despite few drawbacks. Millennials and generation Z are much familiar with remote working rather than previous generations due to computer literacy issues. however it is having many limitations for production and utility sectors.

  12. Work in remotely is a economical to organization why because of the office maintaining is not required for large no of employees. As a example most of the companies are managing a larger head office premises to manage the business. with the pandemic all of them started to work from home. So from energy cost to transport and other welfare cost got reduced from 80% 90%. organization should know how to manage the workforce remotely. And that is the major challenge for HR department.
